There is a mode where you add relics and things for gameplay reasons.
There is a story mode and then a mode called "Invasions" then added the "Chaos Reigns" DLC mode (Story expansion) then the various Tower modes. Relics and things work in one of those. There is no "Krypt" to roam around like the previous game MK 11. But there is a mini map you can challenge Ashrah in "Titan" mode which is a difficult boss fight that kind of works like a Krypt gameplay has a mini character wonder the map briefly to go portal to portal but not really a free roam mode like the Krypt was. MK 1 added "Kameo" fighters that tag in for a move.
Many stages to play on, most dark, you can unlock a new stage if beat Floyd.
Finding Floyd is a challenge just to face him, play 50 matches, or do other things in game, and get just 1 chance to beat him until recycle the same gameplay achievements all over again for a rematch.
MK 1 Towers. Has various towers to play like an arcade mode but with numerous options.
Has a tag team feature (Move) you can use which calls in another character
you selected at the character select screen, that comes in and does a move to your opponent.
Kameo Fighters -- This guy is Shujinko.
He can help to do a big special, or just press R1 often when it recharges from combat a few times a round, and he can do a grab move or another attack type or 2 it depends on the Kameo fighter, but you see them do minor damage more often in a fight than doing big cut scene special moves, so they function like a "move" instead of being another kick or punch you just press R1, and then can do the final special move also. Even call them in to end it instead of go for a fatality.
Kano Kameo uses lazer, does a grab with stabs, throws knives, etc..
Pick "Kano" the guy with the metal eye patch, he will do a lazer beam shot if you just press R1 without any directional input forward or backward. This helps in a fight to do some chip damage like any other kick and helps with keep away and or zoning. Jax ran in and bounced the ground, not very helpful, and the little girl Ferra did a variety of things, as well from throw things, to be thrown, to jump on the opponent to be held by me to be used as a club I swag kind of move, using a human body. Kano was doing spinning fireball move with his body tucked and spinning across the level.
Kameo Fighters are a deep tool / mechanic / feature.
Has flashy cut away type graphical moves.

These determine the time the game checks what was input, as in forward, down, x, could be move forward, crouch, press x, or down-forward x, depends on when it registers the inputs with "timing" hence the options here. So you can tweak this for some characters if you can never get the specials to work for some is the scenario. Otherwise most often it wouldn't matter much.
You can press a button to remap it. I flipped block from L1 to R2.
The MK1 "Definitive Edition" on PS5 includes all of the characters (all dlc) characters.

This 250 coin price is earned in game like by playing a Tower challenge, you complete a tower and earn about 500 coins, you get coins for winning each match, and unlock things along the way.
